Average Cost

When researching the average cost of any creative work it can get a little overwhelming. Many things have to be taken into consideration, such as experience of the designer, quality of work, and the time spent. The areas that I researched were commercials, web design, logo design, and corporate identity. To make it easier to grasp I’ll break it down into the most common price ranges for each area.

Web design: For a site that is more simple, such as a personal site or basic profile site, the cost can be anywhere from $250-$1,000+; For a more complex site, such as for a small or medium business, the price range can be anywhere from $6,000-$20,000+. The price also depends on if the site is flash or not. A flash site can be double the cost of a regular site. Again, this is extremely dependent on factors such as the complexity of the website and the experience of the web designer. A business will usually spend up to 1% of their annual revenue on their website.

Logo design: Again, this strongly depends on the quality of work done, but a common range for a logo design is about $100-$1,000+, this also depends on what the logo is worth to the the company, which then ties into corporate identity. If the company wants the logo to be a strong identifier for their company then most likely they are going to spend more money for it. For a more detailed explanation of this check out http://www.curtoons.com/logo-design-prices.htm. I found his “rant”, as he calls it, to be extremely helpful.

Many web and graphic designers are also paid by the hour for their services. That average can be anywhere from $50-$150+/hr.

Commercials: The American Association of Advertiser’s says that the average cost for a professionally-produced 30-second spot is $381,000. This figure is also quite flexible though because it depends on the type of coverage desired such as local, regional, or national. The price can also vary depending on what time of day the commercial will air, with what television shows it will air with, the size of the viewing audience, and the length of the commercial - whether it be a 15, 30, or 60 second spot. A local commercial could cost anywhere from $15-$65+, while a regional is anywhere from $250-$500+. National commercials is where the price really jumps into the tens of thousands. This is usually all negotiable as well. For more information check out http://www.gaebler.com/National-TV-Spot-Ad-Costs.htm, also another very helpful website.
